IPIN Viewing System (IVS) Information

As with most major software programs, our viewer has it's share of problems! As a reminder, don't forget that the old viewer (FastBid) is still available for your use by clicking on the Click here to view blueprints using the FastBid viewer link near the top of every plan list page.

I wanted to make a list of the open issues, at least the major ones, as a reference for everyone. If you are experiencing one of the problems that I'm asking for more information on and I haven't already talked to you, please contact Jim at (216) 661-8300. Issues that have changed since the last update to this page are displayed in BLUE. Issues that have not changed are displayed in MAROON. Followed by that is a list of resolved issues. At the bottom is a list of new features that have been added since the initial release. These are mostly things that we wanted in the original release but weren't quite ready to go with.

     Open Issues:

  • Printing with markups: This feature does not yet work properly. Due to the scope of the problems with printing in general, we've decided to hold off working on this issue until basic print functionality was working properly.
  • Running program from shortcut in Start menu results in error: The program itself has been fixed to correct this. However, the shortcut that the installer created causes the same problem. We hope to issue an update patch in the future that will correct this shortcut problem. However, the updater built into IVS cannot fix this one. In the meantime, you may want to create a desktop shortcut to the viewer for this purpose. The default location for the viewer is C:\Program Files\IPIN\Viewer\IPINViewer.exe.
  • HTTP Error (407) Proxy authentication failed: You can now set the viewer up to work with a proxy server by clicking on the Prefs button, checking off the Use Proxy button and filling in the proxy information. You will need to get this information from your IT personnel or copy it from another program that is configured to use the proxy server (such as Internet Explorer). HOWEVER: For this to work properly, we'll have to distribute a patch update. As is, most people with proxy servers won't even be able to update the viewer using the normal method. We'll make an announcement when the patch is available.
  • Error 1316 Network error occurred while installing: We'll work on preventing this from occurring in future releases. However, this does not appear to be a critical issue. Simply click on the Continue button and the installation will complete. We do not need any more reports of this error unless you find that it does not complete the installation.
  • IVS is installed, shows up in Start, Programs menu, but web site tells you it is not installed: The notice from the web site will show error number -2146827850. This MAY be solved by installing a security update. If you are interested in trying this update, contact me for further information.

     Resolved Issues:

  • Update version 4.xxxxxxx
  • INT32 error when you click on the print button and/or change options on the print dialog: This has been fixed and should no longer occur.
  • Blank page or page with only a number in the corner when printing to an HP plotter: This was caused primarily by HP printer drivers that don't return appropriate printer resolution information to .NET. This should be resolved with this update. PLEASE NOTE: Printing to HP printers is still highly dependant on the printer memory. As with FastBid, you will probably need to set the print quality to Fast/Draft mode and if it is a color printer, set it to print color as grayscale or you will receive an out of memory error from the printer.
  • Saving and/or printing on a network computer under a non-administrative account results in LEAD Error, unable to open file: This issue has been fixed. All users of the software must have full read/write access to the C:\IVSPlans (or other folder designated for saved plans in Prefs) for these functions to work, but there are no other permissions required elsewhere.
  • Clicking on plan link results in error -2146233078 (Request Denied): This is a .NET security error resulting from our web site not having sufficient permissions on your computer to run an external program. If you get this error, you will be presented with the opportunity to download and install the appropriate security update (it's a small download). This error may also be displayed if .NET is installed on your computer, but the viewer is not. If this is the case, you will be notified of this the next time you attempt to load the viewer after installing the security update.

If you are experiencing any problems other than those listed, please contact me so we can determine whether it is a new bug, a configuration problem, etc.

     New Features:

  • Update version 4.xxxxxxx
  • Ability to grab and pan zoomed image: This can now be done. However, to do so, you need to select the MOVE button in the toolbar at the top of the viewer window. Then you can pan the image while holding the left mouse button down.
  • Navigation buttons work in offline mode: The Next, Previous and Plans buttons now operate properly when in offline mode, accessing locally saved plans for a particular project now.
  • Batch printing in offline mode: You can batch print files that you had saved locally at a previous time.
