Fix for download problem with the Fortney & Weygandt web site.

The plans and specs on the Forney & Weygandt web site are in a TIFF format, which happens to be a format that is associated with our plan viewer.

There are a couple of error messages indicating this condition when you try to open a drawing on the Fortney & Weygandt site. The first is "The data that the plugin requested, did not download successfully." The second is "Not a TIFF file, bad magic number ##### (0x####)." There may be others as well, but these are the ones we've seen so far.

The best solution we can give you at this time is to download the TIFF files to your hard drive and view them from there. This will allow you to view the images from F&W, while still maintaining the ability to view our plans online. There are a couple of steps you need to take for this to work properly. I'm going to run you through these steps now.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Log in to the Fortney & Weygandt web site and go to a page where plans and specs are listed.

Instead of clicking on the image you want with your left mouse button, click once with the right mouse button. This will open up a menu similar to the one shown here. Select the Save Target As... option.
Do this for each of the files you want to look at.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will have to click once with the right mouse button on this page to log in to their system. Once you have done this, clear the error message, go back to the selection page and try again.

Now we need to run Windows Explorer. You can find it in your Start, Programs menu.

Find the folder that you saved the TIFF files to. Then double-click on one of the files you downloaded.

At this point, one of two things will happen. Either the image will be displayed on your screen or you'll get a dialog box asking what program you want to use to view the file with. If the image displays on your screen, you're all set. You can now view images from Fortney & Weygandt using the viewer you see now. If you're looking at the dialog box, follow the directions below.

If you are using Windows 98, scroll down to KodakImg, and select it. If you are using Windows 95, scroll down to WangImg and select that. Then check the box for Always use this program to open this type of file. Then click on OK.

The KodakImg or WangImg program is now your default viewer for TIFF images. You can also view the TIFF images by running the Imaging program from the Start, Programs, Applications menu and opening the TIFF files from within the program.
